A2: (Standard)
The A2 or 'standard' motorcycle training course is
designed to prepare candidates for their motorcycle practical test on a
bike of between 121cc and 125cc and capable of at least 62.5mph. This
category of licence restricts the rider to operate machines of 33bhp, ride
without L plates, carry passengers and ride on motorways. The restriction
to full motorcycle entitlement is automatically removed after 2 years. Our
A2 Standard courses are designed for people who have passed their CBT and
wish to progress onto larger bikes, carry passengers and ride on
motorways. A2 training is of particular interest to riders under 21 years
of age who are not eligible for the Direct Access Scheme (DAS
Group
A: (Direct Access)
The Direct Access Scheme (DAS) is designed for
riders over 21 years old, who wish to ride bikes of unlimited size and
power. Training is initially conducted on 125cc bikes, and progresses to
500cc bikes that are used for the practical test.Course lengths are
determined by the individual's level of skill and competence - novice
riders will naturally require more training than experienced riders! The
number of days spent on training is advised by our instructors after a
free assessment of your riding skill. They are also happy to discuss your
needs as a rider and offer the best training package to meet those
needs.
We can
train you from complete novice through to riding unlimited bikes, or begin
at any point in between. Your first step is to undergo a one day CBT
course. From there, we will arrange for you to sit the Written Theory
Test, which you must have before your Practical Test. We have the Written
Theory Test on computer in our classroom and students may practice as much
as they wish prior to the actual test. After an agreed number of days
training we will accompany you to a nominated test centre, where you will
carry out the Practical Test.
On a bike
of over 46.6 bhp to ride without restriction. Brake horse power does
not equate to cc. For restrictions contact your local motorcycle
dealer. N.B. The second option is not available to under

What motorcycle test do I need to take?
Provisional Moped Licence:
You can
only hold this if you are at least 16 years old. It entitles you to ride a
moped on the road as a learner with L-plates. You must not carry pillion
passengers or use motorways.Your provisional licence is only valid when
you have the DL196 Certificate issued on completion of CBT by an approved
training body.Provisional moped licences are not time limited.A CBT
certificate obtained on a moped is also valid for motorcycles once the
rider has reached the age of 17 years and has the necessary
licence.
Full
Moped Licence: A full moped licence automatically gives you
provisional motorcycle entitlement. However, you must be at least 17 years
old to take up the provisional entitlement.
Provisional Motorcycle Licence You can only hold this if
you are at least 17 years old. It entitles you to ride a moped or
motorcycle as a learner with L-plates. You may practice unaccompanied on a
bike up to 125cc after a compulsory basic training (CBT) course has been
completed. For larger machines the Direct Access accompanying rider rules
apply. You MUST not carry pillion passengers or use motorways.Provisional
motorcycle licences issued before 1 February 2001 are valid for two years
from date of issue. Provisional motorcycle licences issued from 1 February
2001 will be valid until age 70. Persons whose licences have lapsed under
the pre-February 2001 rules, or who fail to pass a test within the two
year life of their current licence, will be able to apply to have their
provisional motorcycle licence restored immediately.
Full
Car Licence If you passed a car test before 1 February 2001, you
are automatically entitled to ride a moped without L-plates and without
taking CBT (although it is recommended you do). If you passed a car test
on or after that date, you will still receive moped entitlement but will
need to complete a basic moped riding course before riding on the
road.Your full car licence also gives you provisional entitlement - you
may ride as a learner with L-plates.
